Authentic cakes is run by Avril Unwin, who has been making cakes from home for several years. Initially self-taught, she has since taken courses at the local college and is presently chairman of the Cambridge branch of the British Sugarcraft Guild.

Authentic Cakes opened its shop in April 2005, giving the opportunity of baking on a larger scale and displaying some of the cakes and techniques available. The shop also stocks a wide range of cake making and decorating equipment and sugarcraft classes are available.
